Today at around 6:40 PM PDT (3:40 PM HST) we left Kaneohe Bay and are sailing north. The VALIS crew is Rich, Lin, Jenta, Nicole, and me (Paul). You know Rich, Lin is a friend and experienced sailor from Vancouver, and Jenta and nicole are students associated with the NOAA Marine Debris Research program. Jenta and Nicole will be conducting debris surveys and some collection / tagging from VALIS during our trip.
The conditions are great, we are sailing almost due north (which is what we want), and the crew is getting along well. The sun has just set and I am preparing for the midnight (PDT) radio net where some of .the returning racers will be checking in.
