What the heck is a "VALIS", anyway?
Well, it comes from the title of a science fiction novel by one of my favorite authors; Philip K. Dick. The novel is quite difficult to describe, but VALIS is an acronym, standing for "Vast Active Living Intelligence System". Which has absolutely nothing to do with my boat -- I just like the way it sounds and the concepts it evokes.
